CGI MATH

We have been working on CGI math.  CGI stands for Cognitively Guided Instruction.  
  • I first read the story problem with the students.  
  • Then as a group we find the important information in the problem. 
  •  The students work independently to solve the problem. We then meet on the rug to share how to solve the problem.    The students need to be able to explain their method.  
  •   We also reviewed some problems that were answered incorrectly and discussed where the mistake was in the method.  I find we often learn a lot from mistakes!

Here is the story problem:
Brianna is making bracelets for her friends.  For each bracelet, she uses 5 red beads and 7 blue beads.  How many red beads will she need to make 4 bracelets
