Field Trip

We kicked off our science unit yesterday at the library.  The students are learning about living and non living things.  The students were able to create a mini seed garden and practiced using pretend "beaks" to pick up pretend bird food.  More pictures to come!
Guided Reading groups are off to a good start. The first graders are learning to work independently at centers.  If anyone would like to volunteer to help out with centers, email me.  We have centers 5 days a week from 10:00-10:40.  You all (unless your child was absent) should have had reading homework one day this week.  Your first grader should have brought home a paper slip with the name of the story to read Raz Kids.  Try to only read ahead the books on the independent reading list.
Homework, spelling notebooks, library books, and poetry journal are all things your first grader is responsible for bring back to school.  We are working hard in first grade on being responsible and independent workers.  Please have your child put his or her things in the book bag to bring back to school.  The first graders are just learning and will need reminders.  However, I want them to get in the habit of doing this for themselves.  I hear a lot of "My mom forgot to put my (spelling book, homework, poetry journal) in my book bag!"
Have a great weekend!
